Artisans in Bali, Indonesia, pass the wood carving ability down from father to son.
"Parasite Wood" are knots that grow on the local trees in response to the invasion from parasites. The tree forms a burl to isolate the invader. Years pass, and the artisans then harvest the burls to create their imaginative art forms. They use the local colorful amphibians as their models. All colors are hand applied and are permanent. As everywhere else in the developing world, the woodcarving skill is becoming a lost art as the young people move to the cities for work. Here is a perfect opportunity to acquire, at a modest cost, a future antique that will become greatly admired and desired.
These decorative carvings would make a perfect gift for any wood-carving enthusiast, or just to spruce up your mantle! This price is for one frog. Tom has frogs in yellow, blue, orange and red! Be sure to specify which color you would like when you order!
